The Benardete Archive was founded in 2002 as a not-for-profit
corporation for the purpose of preserving the scholarly and philosophical work of
Seth Benardete and encouraging serious reflection on it. With this general end in
mind our website will provide information about Benardete and news of recent and
upcoming events pertaining to his thought. The Archive plans in
particular to assemble a complete collection of tape recordings of courses taught
by Seth Benardete at The New School for Social Research and New York University
from 1964 until his death in November of 2001. Copies of these recordings and, in
time, transcriptions of them will be placed in the archive of Benardetes
papers housed in the Fogelman Library at The New School University in New York
City. Once organized, these papers will be available to the public.
The Benardete Archive is also considering the establishment of a regularly scheduled
symposium on Benardetes work and ideas, should funding become available. It
would be organized much like the symposium held at The New School University in December,
2002.
